Our Kuba framed art work is created by Alive Art, a group of master framers and specialists from Johannesburg, South Africa. They are widely considered one of South Africa's premier art galleries. We are proud to include them among our offerings of African ceramics, furniture, clothing, and artwork.
The Kuba people of the Congo (formerly Zaire) are known for their fine eye for artistic patterning. The Kuba weave is a labor-intensive task from start to finish. The frames are made of wawa wood from the equatorial regions of South Africa, and the cloth is woven from raffia palm leaves. Traditionally, the men of the tribe are responsible for making the cloth, and the women for fashioning the intricate decorations. All of this combined makes Kuba framed art work a must-have for any serious collector. It will complement any décor and will bring you years of enjoyment into the future.
Traditionally, Kuba art is passed down through family generations. May you have your chance to do this with your very own Kuba art!
Besides African ceramics, we carry art by the renowned Hannes Harrs. With his European background and schooling, Harrs has contributed to framed art work in South Africa in a unique way. In fact, many feel that his contribution has not yet been fully comprehended. His work absorbs the rhythms, colors, and textures of Africa, and transfigures them meaningfully into a physical form.
